As of mid-2005, Tony is at work on a number of projects. We feature two of them here.

CORPS

CORPS is an experimental mixture of narrative, physical theater and circus arts to be co-directed with Jesko von Den Steinen. Here is the project description:

CORPS is an experimental short narrative film to be directed by writer, producer and musician Tony Babinski and performer and creator Jesko Von Den Steinen. The film tells the story of a group of white-collar workers struggling for individual expression under the weight of corporate conformity and indifference. Corps is an attempt to tell a human story grounded in every day experience through a new mixture of contact dance, physical theatre, and circus arts. The film will feature performers from Montreal’s esteemed Les Septs Doigts de la Main (“The Seven Fingers”), who are currently staking out new ground in the theatrical presentation of the theatre arts for audiences across the world. It is to be choreographed by Jesko Von Den Steinen and Liam Steel, the latter of England’s groundbreaking DV-8 Dance and Theatre Company. As such, the film will create a unique opportunity for international co-operation between European and Canadian artists at the very forefront of artistic creation.

The film has been funded by Bravo!FACT and will be shot in October 2005.

CONNECTING: THE OTIS GRANT STORY

Tony has written a script for an hour-long television documentary about Otis Grant, a boxer from Montreal. The film is being directed by Tony’s brother Bob Babinski, and produced by Martin Métivier of Les Productions Magenta for Radio-Canada (in French), and eventual broadcast in English.

The documentary tells the story of Otis’ origins in Jamaica, his family and friends in Montreal, his career in boxing, his many charitable activities, and his remarkable return to the ring after a near-fatal car accident.

Tony will be scoring the show as it nears completion in May/June 2005.
